Improving pathways

2021

Improving pathways to the music industry for young people with multiple disadvantages aged 16 - 25 living in Coventry

Discovering and nurturing young creatives, mentors and musicians of the future. Providing opportunities for personal development and social change. Forming a hub for developing musicians, youth practitioners, music leaders and engineers.

There will be 4 main strands to the project and the steering group will be at the centre.

  • Building capacity through intensive training programmes and mentoring with professionals - Widening the skills of volunteers, staff and young people.

  • The management and delivery of the studio facility - training and development of sound engineers and practitioners to work with community groups and professional artists/companies. Opportunities to shadow professionals.

  •  The record label - Production of high quality music and sample packs, management and music business with opportunities for developing artists to work alongside established artists.

  • The planning and delivery of events - Godiva Festival, Coventry Welcomes. Work experience opportunities,

  • working in partnership with Imagineer on Flow, Programming one of the days at Godiva festival.

  • The skills developed through the project will link directly to needs of the industry and the local sector, young people will be able to shape the activities and their learning based on specific needs and interests of the different groups we are working with the things that are important to them as individuals will help them to identify the correct pathways. This could be a combination of different careers in the industry. For example learning skills in music production, producing high quality music, instrumental skills, skills in foley work, sound engineering, mixing, mastering, live sound and soundreinforcement, events management and production also learning how to share those skills with others, developing skills on how to work with young people effectively.
